SEND and Inclusion

From September 2014, all schools are expected to publish a document to help parents/carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) understand what services they and their families can expect from a range of local agencies.

It should help them understand how the system works, and how the local authority, local area and the school will support both the child and the family.

Details of this are included in our report below:

If you need to pursue a complaint regarding our SEND support, please visit the guidance on the GOV.UK SEN Complaints web page

At St. Jude’s, we promote a fully inclusive curriculum reflecting our Catholic mission statement: We live, love and learn together joyfully in Jesus’ name.

This includes the way in which we organise the classroom, the materials we use to teach the children, our teaching pedagogy and the way in which we tailor the curriculum to meet individual needs.

All children are valued, respected and welcomed to the school whatever their additional educational needs. We will support their learning and ensure they are fully included in all school activities, making full use of externally provided facilities and support where appropriate.

We work closely with parents and other schools and settings, to ensure effective and appropriate transition takes place both on arrival and departure. We know  addressing SEND areas can be a tricky area to navigate and that the wait for appointments with specialists can be long. We always aim to do the very best for all children and their families. Our Inclusion Team consists of our SENCO, Mr S Powell, and our Pastoral Manager, Mrs M Orton. Both staff members are highly experienced and qualified in their roles – please make an appointment to see them as needed.
