School trips are a vital part of our curriculum, offering pupils unique opportunities to learn, grow, and build lifelong memories outside the classroom. At St. Jude’s, the summer term has been packed with trips across school allowing pupils to enjoy some real hands-on learning.
Our youngest learners recently visited a local working farm to connect with nature and understand where their food comes from. Pupils fed lambs, collected fresh eggs, and toured the vegetable patches. This trip directly supported their science unit on living things and habitats.
Our Key Stage 1 had an unforgettable adventure during a trip to West Midlands Safari Park! The children showed wonderful curiosity and represented our school beautifully throughout the day. Children got up close with incredible animals, including majestic lions, tall giraffes, and rhinos. Pupils explored the penguin cove, walked through the reptile house, and braved the twilight cave to see the bats. This trip brought our science topics to life.
Year 3 also had a science themed trip and enjoyed absolutely fantastic day out at Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum. Pupils stepped into a world of discovery, exploring everything from Birmingham’s famous industrial steam engines to the cutting-edge technology of the future. Key highlights included exploring the interactive MiniBrum gallery, observing the gigantic Spitfire plane, and tackling hands-on engineering challenges in the outdoor Science Garden. And to make things even better, the class had their own workshop to support their Luminous Light topic.
Our Year 4 recently enjoyed an exciting, hands-on educational visit to Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Students explored exotic rainforest climates and observed giant water lilies. They Classes mapped out the different climate zones replicated inside the glasshouses. Students created beautiful, detailed observational sketches of unique leaf patterns.
Our Year 5 class recently swapped the classroom for a hands-on adventure at the Sparks Safety Centre. This interactive trip taught our pupils vital real-world skills to keep themselves and others safe. During the visit, the children explored realistic, immersive scenarios. They practiced crossing roads safely, learned how to spot hazards in the home, and discovered what to do in an emergency. The educators at the centre were incredibly impressed by our students’ excellent listening skills, thoughtful questions, and brilliant teamwork.
Year 6 enjoyed their recent trip to Hampton Court Palace – it was an absolute triumph. The children stepped back in time to explore the Tudor world, bringing their history lessons to life in spectacular fashion. The day gave our young historians a unique opportunity to work directly with genuine pieces of the past. The children put on their history detective hats to analyse real artefacts from the Tudor and Baroque eras.
