All pupils our annual Tolkien Schools’ Science Week, with the aim of raising awareness and sparking enthusiasm in science, technology and maths. Every class took part in an exciting practical investigation.
As part of Science week, some Year 5 pupils were lucky enough to visit Bishop Challoner for a STEM fair which they really enjoyed. And the pupils also loved taking part in a Computing challenge day also hosted by Bishop Challoner Catholic College. We are very proud to say that, of a total of eleven schools competing, the team from St. Jude’s came back with a win and that we are now the proud owners of code-able robot!
Pupils also thoroughly enjoyed a ‘Silly Science’ workshop. They learnt about elements, why molecules bond, understand the magic of lift and the power of pressure as well as experiencing explosions! There was a focus on gravity, thrust, lift, pressure, chemical reactions, fire, molecules and bonds and of course, explosions!
Science was brought to life even further with a special VR headset day where a variety of the topics that the classes have studied throughout the year were explored. This was a great immersive experience for the pupils – a great way to finish the week!
