Reception

Welcome to Reception Class. This is the beginning of your child's learning journey at St. Jude's Catholic Primary School.

During this very important year we will work in partnership with you to care for and educate your child. We aim to offer new opportunities to your child to help draw out their ability and potential, helping each individual to grow and develop in preparation for the future.

The Reception classroom is a large self-contained area with its own toilet facilities. It is a happy, stimulating learning environment with many colourful, interactive displays that celebrate your child's talents and achievements.

Our Catholic Faith is at the heart of everything we do in Reception Class. Your child will learn that Jesus loves us all and that we are special. We all try hard to treat everyone that we meet with love and respect, just as Jesus did.

Your child will be learning skills, gaining new knowledge and demonstrating understanding through seven areas of learning and development.

The three prime areas are:

  • Communication and Language;
  • Physical Development;
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

Your child will also develop skills in four specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy;
  • Mathematics;
  • Understanding the World;
  • Expressive Arts and Design.

These seven areas are used to plan your child's individual learning. We encourage your child to work through adult-directed tasks and self-chosen activities. The role play area, outside classroom, and a wide range of exciting, purposeful activities linked to a half termly topic, are used to encourage independence, enjoyment and learning through play.

We look forward to working in partnership with you and your child.

Each morning the whole class discuss our learning for the day with our teachers and friends.

We have a playtime in the morning and afternoon where can play with our friends.

Exploring and investigating in the classroom.

When it's nice, we also work outdoors. We need wellies and an apron because we like to get messy!

We can bring a healthy school lunch from home.

Or we can have a yummy school dinner. We can sit with our friends in the dinner hall.

We learn to take turns, share and talk nicely to our friends.

We have fun each day at school. We are always tired but happy at the end of the day.
